5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable nonsense

As Simon Carr admits, he writes nonsense. I love it. Especially the dialogue. Although One-Eyed Cy pokes fun at politics and especially prejudices, and has a moral to the story similar to Aesop's fables or The Simpsons cartoons... it's ultimately just a fun adventure. Cy the Cyclop's quest to save Zeus from a flatulance explosion involves wizards ( including the greatest wizard of all time ), a dwarf ( I mean a normal sized man smaller in size ), a pixie, a budgie named Dennis, a skeleton crew of skeletons, a genie, a kraken, Poseidon, a sprite infested pigeon, and Marie whose 15 year study of the Bermuda Triangle has revealed bupkis.
Cy just wants to be a monster on top of his mountain, but is thrust into the role of pirate ship's captain with his motley crew in order to retrieve medicine from the mythical lands beyond the realm of Olympus. Their adventure is similar to that of Jason and the Argonauts, but with a healthy heaping of nonsense thrown in.
If you've read anything by Simon Carr, and appreciate his sense of humor, you'll like One Eyed Cy. If you haven't read Carr, but like silly adventure stories, give Cy a try. It does start a bit slower than most of Carr's books, but stick with it.
5.0 out of 5 stars Quirky and fun!

If you have not read any of Simon's books, you are in for a treat. His writing brings Monty Python to mind, so if you enjoy silly humor, this will definitely be your cuppa.
I loved this book because it takes old myths, current world news, and a perverted way of thinking, to a whole new level. I laughed often and even reread parts just to laugh again! Cy is a "monster" cyclops that has his monster license revoked. He is then reclassified as a pirate, which he has no experience with. With new takes on old mythological creatures, a perverted humor on bodily functions, and an original storyline, I couldn't put it down. You will enjoy this book if you are a little bit twisted.
